Before & After pictures at the end
I never liked other people’s presets. They all had the same names with different numbers at the end and looked too similar or too weird and reminded me of Instagram filters.
But starting from scratch every time is really tedious and kind of wastes your creative energy, and after regularly getting back to some on my own settings in Lightroom to try on new pictures, I realised there were only a few I used all the time.
So I gave them names I would remember, like bad song titles.
I called them Calliope cause it’s a Greek Muse so it sounded cool. There is nothing in Greek mythology about visual arts, but Calliope is the chief of all muses so it still worked.
I hope they can inspire you and be either a quick shortcut through your aesthetic obstacles or at least a good place to start from. Unlike most presets you can buy, you can see below what picture they each come from, so you can use them in similar conditions to start with or test them one by one to see what fits best. I don’t have one specific set up for my portraits, like with lights, time of the day, etc, so you can always find one that is useful.
You might of course have to play around with exposure and white balance for them to work, depending on the conditions in which your original photo was taken.
You can use the hashtag #octavekpresets when you use them and I will repost some on my Instagram story.
